The training was declared open today in Mararaba, Nasarawa State by the Permanent Secretary, Service Welfare Office, in the Office of the Head of the Civil Service of the Federation, Dr. Ngozi Onwudiwe, who was represented by the Director FISH, Mrs Uchenna.

Dr. Ngozi Onwudiwe, in her welcome address stated that the training could not have come at a better time considering the critical role played by the FISH technical division in ensuring that high quality standards are maintained in the development of houses under the FISH programme. She added that the training programme will improve the capacity of the Technical Division for effective service delivery.

She noted that the training was in line with the vision of the Head of Service of the Federation to reposition the Civil Service for world class performance towards accelerated national development and the need to face the challenge of digitization and technological advancement.

The provision of quality and affordable housing for civil servants she explained, was of paramount interest to the present administration and is one of the priority areas of the Federal Civil Service Strategy and Implementation plan 2021-2025 and the National Development Plan.

According to her, the Geographical Information System (GIS) technology is particularly important at this time of our national development in the light of the need for precise and adequate data in the management of natural resources, mapping, recording and tracking changes in urban spawl, vegetation, climatology and regional management.

“It is the most efficient method for capturing spatial and non-spatial data, this makes it handy in the editing of digitalized imagery maps and also allows decisions makers to take necessary steps in developing the nation” She added.

She therefore urged participants to utilize the opportunity for proper grounding in the practical aspects of the GIS technology to enhance their performance in the discharge of their duties.

The Head of Technical Division, FISH Department Architect Ugwu Joseph also noted that the training will equip participants with necessary skills to meet the departments specific needs and ensure best practice in the monitoring and supervisory exercise of building projects.
